This CD contains Art Pepper’s live performance at Chicago’s celebrated Jazz Showcase club on July 16, 1977, presented here for the first time ever in any format. Much like his legendary Village Vanguard recordings that would be made two weeks later (during the same East Coast tour), this performance showcases Pepper in a quartet setting at the height of his ability. He is backed here by an outsatnding group of Chicago musicians. The band’s chemistry is exceptional as they perform material including tunes the saxophonist hand’t recorded in over 20 years ! A radio interview with Pepper was taped immediately prior to this concert. It has been added at the end of this CD.
