This edition presents the complete original album “Oscar Peterson Plays the George Gershwin Songbook” (Verve MGV-2054), by the Oscar Peterson trio with Ray Brown and Ed Thigpen. For this extended edition, further Gershwin compositions recorded by Peterson on various occasions have been added, including all of the tunes from a George Gershwin songbook attempt made in 1952 by the Peterson trio with Brown and Barney Kessel on guitar, and originally issued as Oscar Peterson Plays George Gershwin (Clef MGC- 605). A live version of “It Ain’t Necessarily So” by the trio of Peterson-Brown-Thigpen taped in 1960 has been added as a further bonus.
